Saskia Baden, Digital Facilities Director

“Photography has an inherent relationship to death, as do I”

Saskia was born and raised in western North Carolina. She credits much of her photographic interest to growing up with an 87 acre cemetery bordering her backyard and an extensive Barbie collection that she spent much of her childhood photographing with her mom’s point-and-shoot camera. Her photographic practice is influenced by a preoccupation with death, the fragility of the body, and the mediums ability to defy impermanence, while always referencing temporality.

Saskia works primarily in black & white analog photography because her love for the medium is fed by being able to see and touch the transformations that occur between living moment, light, chemistry, and still image in the darkroom. She graduated from the Photography Program at Bard College in 2017.
